Hassan Sharif was born in Iran in 1951, he died in Dubai in 2016. In the 1970s, Sharif published satirical drawings and caricatures in the newspaper Akhbar Dubaï. In the early 1980s, he went to study in London at the Byam Shaw School of Art. After graduation in 1984, he moved back to the United Arab Emirates, organized his first exhibitions, founded several artist collectives while continuing his work as an artist and an art critic. He participated in group shows at Whitechapel Gallery, London New Museum, New York and Centre Pompidou, Paris... He also exhibited in the UAE’s national pavilion at the Venice Biennale on two occasions (2009 and 2015). His works are part of major public collections like Guggenheim New York, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, Centre Pompidou, Tate Modern, Sharjah Art Foundation Collection or Mathaf: Arabuseum of Modern Art in Doha. He is represented by the gb agency gallery in France.
