Paper, from material to meaning
Throughout the history of Iranian art and culture, paper has been far more than a surface for recording ideas.it has served as a material that carries memory, knowledge, poetry, ages and lived experience. In contemporary art, the renewed focus on materiality and making has expended paper beyond its traditional role, transforming it into an object of aesthetic, social, and environmental inquiry. Today, the physical qualities of paper, from its fibers, texture, thickness, and translucency to its capacity for decay, 
recycling, and transformation, actively contribute to the meaning of an artwork. The process of making has become as significant as the finished piece itself.
Focusing on paper art and papermaking in contemporary Iranian art, this exhibition seeks to reconsider paper not as a passive support for images, but as an independent, living and evolving medium.
The artworks presented encompass a wide spectrum of artistic approaches, ranging from the revival of traditional handmade papermaking and the use of indigenous in materials to contemporary explorations in paper sculpture, installation, artist`s books, fiber art, recycled materials, and interdisciplinary practices. Within these works, paper simultaneously functions as material, image, object, and concept. It becomes, at different moments, a vessel of historical memory, a reflection on the fragility of human existence, and a metaphor for transformation and renewal.
{Paper} from material to meaning invites viewers to reflect upon the relationships between hand and thought, material and memory, tradition and innovation. It demonstrates that, despite its seemingly humble and everyday nature, paper remains one of the most complex and poetic media of contemporary art. Within every fiber, every layer, and every act of making lies a narrative of time, place, and human experience.
