Iran Daroudi

Born in 1315, Khorasan, Iran - Death 1400

Biography

Iran Darroudi, a revered Iranian painter, director, writer, art critic, and university professor, was born in 1936 in Khorasan to a prominent dynasty of merchants. With roots in both northeastern Iranian trade and Caucasian merchant heritage, Darroudi's diverse background influenced her art profoundly. Her surreal paintings, characterized by Iranian-themed imagery and striking lighting, blend the delicacy of Persian art with Surrealist elements. After discovering her passion for painting, Darroudi pursued education in fine arts, stained glass, and art history at prestigious institutions in France and Belgium. In 1968, she gained international acclaim for her commissioned work, "Iranian Petroleum," exhibited globally and featured in prominent publications. Darroudi's artistic journey includes 60 solo exhibitions, 200 group exhibitions worldwide, and contributions to the cultural landscape of Europe, Central America, Japan, and Iran. Beyond her visual art, she embarked on a venture into directing and produced over 80 documentaries alongside her husband, Parviz Moghadasi. Darroudi's impact extended beyond her art into the realm of academia. Her lifetime achievements, including art critiques, speeches, collaborative documentaries, and an autobiography, "Distance Between Two Dots," underscore over 50 years of dedication to contemporary art.

Hailed as one of the most influential artists globally, Darroudi's work graces renowned venues such as the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Arts, the Kerman Museum of Fine Arts, Sa'dabad Palace, Saheb Gharani-e Palace, Belgium's Ixelles Museum, and various Contemporary Art exhibitions in New York. In her latest project, Darroudi returns to her homeland, donating 150 works of art to a foundation in her name for permanent display, ensuring her legacy continues to enrich the artistic landscape of Iran. Darroudi's artistic prowess, academic contributions, and cultural impact solidify her status as an iconic figure in the world of contemporary art.
