Salim Karami started painting at the age of 63 and painted his first images on the back of Armaqan Behzisti flyers using colored pens. For years, he suffered from kidney failure and had to cope with related complications following transplantation surgery. In the final months of his life, Salim also struggled with cancer and died on 25 February 2014 in Rasht. His works show, in various forms, the strong presence of natural elements such as trees, flowers and animals, as well as imaginary creatures – images and forms intuitively constructed based on his perceptions of nature. Thanks to the diverse and fanciful aspects of his paintings, Karami’s work found widespread recognition and public acclaim.
