Shiva Sadegh Asadi is an Iranian painter and filmmaker. She started her career as a visual artist in 2005, then she continued her studies and graduated with a Master’s degree in animation from University of Art (Tehran).
She is an independent artist who pursues artistic experimentation regardless of mainstream art market trends.Driven by her desire to express her inner universe and develop her own style, she has created films and art works over the past two decades nonstop. Her animated films, including "The Kitten", "Maned and Macho”, “Crab" and "Stain" have been admired and awarded internationally. She writes about herself:
"I used to draw and make stories since I was a child. Painting became more serious for me since I was an art student. In painting, I gradually achieved a fragmented space in which people or creatures who were somehow injured were enclosed in a small personal environment.
This private space was often defined by geometric shapes, filled with sharp, flat colors and also contained ready-made objects that were collaged on my work. Gradually, I tried other styles as well, but in my works, the characters still have their own, separate and individual lives, as if it is not possible for them to reach unity or have a stable relationship. I follow similar concerns in my paintings and animations, and my works often contain dark fantasies and dreams..."
