Smell can both transport and direct. This exhibition uses smells as artworks and includes scents that relate to travel, migration, immigration, navigation, and transportation. There are scents of places that will be familiar, unfamiliar, reachable and unreachable. It includes scents from very specific times and places as well as smells of imaginary, otherworldly and mundane places. Scents of Movement, Scents of Place touches on broad notions of life, death, myriad world views, subjectivity, colonization and what we can know through our nose.
Scents of Movement, Scents of Place is organized by the Art Gallery of Alberta and curated by Lindsey Sharman. This exhibition is proudly sponsored by CIBC.
